A Step-By-Step Guide For Setting Up A Wireless NetworkWireless Networks are in great demand nowadays. They have changed the way we view the communication system. Nobody had ever thought before that it would become so easy for them to communicate even when they are out of their home or office. Plus, setting up a wireless network is quite easy. These wireless networks do not require the need of any kind of wired system, hence they are 'wireless'. Thats the reason we can carry our laptops to just about any place we want and work any way we want: for accessing office files, printers, or browse the internet.
However, the most important factor that will ensure the strength of your network is the way you secure it against cracking and other such security breaches. A wireless network can be set up following the steps below:: * Choice of Wireless Equipment: Wireless equipment are the components that make a wireless network. The wireless equipment presently support one of the three network technologies: 802.11a, 802.11b or 802.11g. Out of these, 802.11g is compatible with most devices, and gives a good performance. For a wireless connection, you need: 1. Internet Connection 2. Wireless Router 3. Computer with a network adapter card or a built-in support for wireless network connection A wireless router is an equipment that is responsible for converting the signals coming across the connection in to wireless signals. A network adapter card allows us to connect our computer to the router without the use of wires and is required only if the computer has no built-in wireless system. Computers made in the past two years, especially laptops, usually come with built-in wireless capabilities. In case there is no built-in support system, an USB wireless network adapter card is required for desktop computer and a PC card-based network adapter card is required for the laptop. An adapter card is required for every computer system in the network. * Wireless Router Connection: A router is connected to the internet not directly but through the use of a modem. A modem is an instrument that modulates or demodulates the signals. After everything gets fixed, the computer gets connected to the wireless router without the use of a wire and the router starts sending and receiving the signals from the internet to the computer system. * Configuring the Wireless Router: The wireless router also needs to be configured. Most of the settings are by default but there are basically three things that are required to be configured. Address and password of the router varies from one router to another. So after entering the password and user name in the Internet explorer, configure the following things: 1. SSID, your wireless network name needs to be chosen. 2. For securing your network, through WEP encryption method or Wi-Fi protected access method, a pass phrase needs to be provided 3. The password called the Administrative Password that manages the entire wireless network, also needs to be configured. * Connecting the computer Last but not the least is to connect our computers to the wireless network. This is either done through network adapter card or the computers might have a built-in support system. As soon as the operating system of the computer senses the new card, it prompts for inserting the installation CD that comes along with the adapter card will guide you through the entire process. Follow these steps and you will find that setting up a wireless network is not as tough as you imagined. |
